Lightning Roulette

European roulette with a jolt through it. Every round, lightning strikes up to five numbers on the board and loads them with a multiplier before the croupier spins.

Roulette, with one extra beat in the round

Underneath the light show, this is ordinary European roulette. One wheel, a single green zero, and the same betting board players have used for a century. You back numbers, splits, columns, dozens, red or black, and the croupier spins a real ball on a real wheel in front of a camera.

The twist arrives after betting closes. The studio goes dark, lightning hits the board and between one and five numbers are picked out as lucky numbers for that round. Each of them is given a multiplier from 50x up to 500x. Then the ball is released. If it finds a number you backed straight up, and that number was struck, your stake is paid with the multiplier attached, and that is where the game's ceiling of 500x comes from.

Two things are worth knowing before you play. The multipliers only attach to straight up bets on single numbers, so an outside bet on red or on a dozen pays as it always would. And the lucky numbers are drawn fresh every round, so there is nothing to track, chase or pattern-match from one spin to the next.

BetWhat it covers
Straight upOne number. The only bet type that can collect a lightning multiplier.
SplitTwo numbers sitting next to each other on the board.
StreetA row of three numbers.
CornerFour numbers meeting at one point.
LineSix numbers across two rows.
Column or dozenTwelve numbers at a time, taken down the board or across it.
Red or black, odd or even, high or lowThe even money bets, covering close to half the wheel each.
  1. Place your chips

Pick a chip value in Australian dollars and drop it on the board. Racetrack and neighbour bets are there if you prefer to bet by wheel position.

  2. Betting closes

The croupier calls it and the board locks. Nothing can be moved after that point.

  3. Lightning strikes

One to five numbers are electrified and shown with their multipliers, from 50x to 500x.

  4. The spin

The ball goes into the wheel, settles in a pocket and the croupier confirms the number. Winning bets are paid, the board clears and the next round opens.

Evolution studio

What the stream gives you

The table is filmed live in an Evolution studio. A croupier runs the wheel, a wide camera covers the floor and a second angle sits over the wheel itself so you can watch the ball drop rather than take anyone's word for it. The strike sequence is part of the broadcast, timed between the close of betting and the spin.

Your screen also carries the statistics panel the studio publishes: recent results, hot and cold numbers and the race track layout. Use it or ignore it. The wheel has no memory, and nothing in that panel changes what the next spin will do.

Tables run around the clock. If a round is already closed when you open the table you are simply in time for the next one, usually within a few seconds, because the croupier never stops.

Limits, etiquette and keeping your head

Lightning Roulette tables carry a stated minimum and maximum, both shown on the table tile in our lobby and inside the game's info panel. Open the panel before you sit if a specific stake matters to you, because the maximum on a straight up number is set separately from the maximum on an outside bet.

Etiquette on a live wheel is mostly about pace. Get your chips down early rather than racing the clock, use the rebet button to repeat a layout you like, and remember that the croupier cannot hold the spin for you. They also cannot see your screen, so if something looks wrong, our live chat team is the fastest way to sort it, not the table chat.

If a session stops being fun, use the limit and time-out tools in your account. We would rather you set a ceiling and enjoy the game than chase a round you did not plan to play. Help is also available any time from Gambling Help Online on 1800 858 858.

On a phone, and with a bonus running

The mobile build puts the video at the top of the screen and the betting board below it, with a pinch to zoom on the number grid so you can place a straight up bet without fumbling. It runs in your phone browser with no app to install. A live table streams video, so wi-fi will treat your data plan better than a long run on mobile broadband.

If you are carrying bonus funds, two conditions apply at this table. Your stake cannot go above A$7.50 on any game while a bonus is active, and roulette sits in the live and table category, which contributes 10% or less of each wager toward the 35x requirement. In practice that makes the wheel a slow instrument for clearing a welcome bonus, so most of our players put their bonus through the pokies at 100% and come to the live floor with cash, where neither restriction applies.

Lightning Roulette questions

What is the RTP of Lightning Roulette?

It runs at 97.30%, and the figure is also published in the game's info panel at the table.

How big can the multipliers be?

Lucky numbers carry a multiplier between 50x and 500x, and the maximum win on the game is 500x your stake.

Do multipliers apply to red or black?

No. Only straight up bets on a single number can collect a lightning multiplier. Outside bets pay in the normal way.

Is the wheel single zero?

Yes, it is a European wheel with one green zero rather than the double zero layout.

Can I use the welcome bonus on this table?

You can play, but live and table games contribute 10% or less toward wagering and the A$7.50 maximum bet applies while the bonus is active. Full conditions are on our bonus page.
